Open-Meteo ET0 and irrigation weather API

How it is run today: Vendor API (pass-through)

Open-Meteo is an HTTP JSON weather forecast and historical API. It includes ag-relevant variables: ET0, soil moisture and temperature, VPD, precip, radiation, and others, stitching national model output (including NOAA GFS/HRRR and ECMWF IFS via their aggregation).

Pass-through today is yes — an easy commodity wrap. Direct NOAA or ECMWF raw feeds are also possible but a harder developer experience.

Raw forecast JSON is commodity. Differentiation is farm-field AOI defaults, ET0 / irrigation helpers, soil layers baked into one API, an SLA, and bundling with field context — not owning the NWP science.

To deliver: an HTTPS proxy plus caching; a commercial Open-Meteo plan if needed (their docs describe a customer- prefix / apikey). GPU: none. Open-Meteo’s usage licence distinguishes non-commercial, commercial, and self-hosted — use commercial or self-host for paid B2B. The customer supplies lat/lon (or a field polygon centroid), variables, and a horizon.

We do not own the weather models. We do not already run a branded irrigation API on top of this.
